While honoring traditional fretless Appalachian craftsmanship, he refine each instrument for modern playability—incorporating smooth geared tuners and an angled neck for comfortable action over the frailing scoop. 

Calkin Banjos are made in Portland, OR.  It is a one-man company that focus on high-quality craftsmanship.
