The Pisgah Walnut Rambler Dobson banjos have been one of our best selling open back banjos since we first took them on in early 2016. This Walnut Rambler with a Dobson tone ring is a smaller A-scale version of that banjo and features the upgraded brass shell on the pot. This brass shell and all of the hardware has an antique brass finish on it.
Standard tuning for a 5-string banjo is an open G, so they would be thought to be a G scale instrument. The A-scale banjo is smaller and is tune to open A. This makes it great to play fiddle tunes as the majority of fiddle tunes are either in A or Double D tuning.
The smaller size also makes it a great banjo for players who have smaller hands and find it difficult to reach to the frets. It also makes a great travel banjo as it will easily fit in an overhead compartment on an airplane.
Features an 11" rim, Dobson tone ring, renaissance head, and a scooped fingerboard.
Comes with a high quality padded Pisgah gig bag!
Pisgah Rambler Dobson A scale banjo
I have a number of fine banjos by well-known US small batch makers, but the Pisgah Rambler Dobson immediately stands out as a distinctive and very welcome addition. Its on the plunky side of the spectrum but has great note clarity and separation, excellent volume, a real pleasure to play. The antique brass hardware was not a high priority for me, but now that I have the instrument in hand I love the look. The antique brass really goes with the walnut neck and the spun over brass pot. Banjo Studio was very responsive and did a great job with the packing. All highly recommended.
Purchase of Pisgah Walnut Rambler "A" Scale with Antique Brass Rim and Hardware
This was my maiden voyage into the world of 5 string open back banjos and David provided invaluable insight and knowledge to help guide me through the learning process and eventual purchase. He was extremely patient with me and very responsive to all of my emails and questions. David is also an accomplished player which was also beneficial in the process and for demonstrating the audio characteristics of the banjos. I could not have had a more positive experience and sincerely thank him for his help. I would highly recommend David and Banjo Studio for an honest, knowledgeable, and friendly banjo purchase experience. I love my new Pisgah and plan at some point in the near future to purchase another with David's help and guidance of course. Gerald Rousseau
