Traditionally the Sierra has been made with a mahogany neck and resonator, but this model is made with a maple neck and resonator. The maple neck gives the banjo a brighter, punchier sound that will cut right through the mix at a jam or onstage. The brightness of maple gives you more of a traditional bluegrass banjo tone (Earl Scruggs played a maple banjo).

Good selection, professional handling, personal touch, great banjo
Great service at the banjo studio. Dave opened the place up for me and let me try a variety of banjos for well over an hour while it poured rain outside. Dave knew all the details on each banjo and gave professional takes on each one, pros, cons, etc. He was also willing to share some insight on my playing style and varied musical uses I was getting a new banjo for. The Deering Sierra plays like a dream, has great tone clarity, and a diversity of sound. Highly recommend the banjo, recommend the banjo studio even more
