All we can say about the Collings D1A varnish dreadnought guitar is WOW!  This dreadnought guitar really has some power with a ton of headroom. This has got to be one of the best dreadnought guitars I have ever played.

The Collings D1A Varnish guitar features an Adirondack spruce top, pre-war Adirondack spruce bracing, and a varnish finish. The varnish finish really gives you a vintage tone, style, and feel. Thinner than nitrocellulose lacquer, the varnish finish is more flexible and allows the wood to resonate more, significantly smoothing out the mids and highs of the Mahogany and Adirondack, while enhancing the low end and warming the highs considerably.

Players that are fans of rosewood guitars will love this guitar as this guitar bridges the gap between mahogany and rosewood, projecting incredibly articulate note definition common with mahogany and the power and low end associated with rosewood.

The Adirondack Spruce drives the top of this guitar and provides power and headroom for heavy handed flatpickers while the fast response of the varnish provides a much better fingerstyle experience as opposed to lacquer.

This guitar also features Adirondack Spruce bracing, which is lighter and stiffer than Sitka Spruce, and makes the top more responsive.

The back and sides are made of Honduran mahogany. This gives the guitar very complex and warm overtones. The varnish finish really allows the guitar to sing as this guitar has incredible volume and resonance, while being very clear and dynamic. This is really an incredible guitar. In our opinion, if you were to buy the ultimate bluegrass flatpicking guitar, the Collings D1AV is it!

We don't like to say this around here, but this guitar is a real banjo killer!
