Copper Spunover Rim Construction & Tonal Impact A spunover rim is built by taking a thin wooden core rim and tightly wrapping sheet metal—in this case, antiqued copper—over both the interior and exterior faces.  Unlike brass, which delivers a sharp, piercing snap, copper adds acoustic warmth. It yields enhanced note separation, punch, and ringing sustain while offering rounder notes. The result is a dark, punchy mid-range tone with complex overtones that easily cut through jams without sounding brash.
