Banjo Studio is proud to be an authorized Rickard Banjo dealer. You are viewing the actual banjo that you'll be purchasing.
The Custom Rickard 11" Walnut Little Wonder takes the idea of a Cherry Little Wonder and substitutes the cherry wood material with a warm, dark walnut neck with a 1/2" walnut rim and Rickard's in-house made 11" Little Wonder tone ring. This gives you a focused, woody voice with a little extra depth from the walnut, a crisp note that cuts through a jam without ever sounding harsh, and a dark tinted skin-style head for that classic old-time plunk and sustain.
This instrument showcases Rickard Banjo's plan to stay to historical design and modern playability:
-
Walnut Construction: A unique 3-piece walnut neck with a black center laminate and a Dobson-style rounded heel, on a 1/2" thick walnut rim with a black cap and decorative purfling band. Paddlehead peghead shape.
-
The "S" Curved Frailing Scoop: A 25.5" scale ebony fretboard with gold fretwire, acrylic dot and star inlays, side markers, and a scoop that lets you play comfortably over the neck for those round, classic frailing tones.
-
Rickard Cyclone 10:1 Tuners: Smooth, high-ratio tuners with tortoise buttons in antiqued brass, for rock-solid tuning stability with a traditional look.
-
Antiqued Brass Hardware: All brass hardware is antiqued, including the Little Wonder tone ring, "2 point" bracket shoes, open ball nuts, rim bolts, dowel stick ferrule, U-clamp, 18-notch tension hoop and No-Knot style tailpiece.
-
Setup: 5/8" maple bridge, low action at 3/32" at the 12th fret, and a hand-polished oil finish.
You aren't just buying an assembly-line instrument; you are investing in a custom piece of North American craftsmanship. The Rickard 11" Walnut Little Wonder is a joy to play and has a great old-time sound.
