Learn how to use hammer ons and pull offs to make you 5-string banjo playing more expressive with this lesson by Ryan Cavanaugh.

Enjoyed Cavanaugh hammer on and pull off lesson. I need those basic skills. Seeing and hearing helps since all of my friends seem to be into hard rock. John Lennon’s first musical instrument was a banjo says the internet. Also love that beautiful Deering I bought from David. I love music that takes me back in time. The banjo is a time machine.

Thanks for the enlightenment and inspiration.
Hammers are great, I like following with a slide or a bend in one fluid motion. Adds a nice bluesy tone.
I’m sure there’s a proper term and notation for it but I refer to it as a hammered bend or bent hammer or a hammered slide.
A slow deep bend with a pull off adds some nice character as well.
Enjoying your videos, cheers.
